It’s 2019, But Don’t Forget These 7 Games!
2019 is already destined to be a year that excites the gaming industry! With the likes of the long awaited “Kingdom Hearts 3”, and the also long awaited “Anthem” coming within a month of each other, there is much to be ready for.
That being said, we cannot forget some of the wonderful games that may have gone overlooked leading into the year. Here are SEVEN of the best games (in no specific order) that you should go back and play if you haven’t already, to truly start off the New Year properly!
1. Horizon: Zero Dawn DLC, The Frozen Wilds

Horizon: Zero Dawn was one of the best games of 2017, and truly delivered on an RPG experience for the ages. Gameplay alone, this game is worth playing again and again. The biggest thing about this game that many have overlooked, is “The Frozen Wilds” DLC. Focused on extending, evolving, and amplifying the base game, Frozen Wilds gives you simply more Horizon to play. This magic that’s captured, should make any fan dish out the $10 for more.
2. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice

I’m going to make this as clear and concise as possible; if you haven’t played Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, you are doing yourself a grave disservice. Buy this game, buy a good pair of gaming headphones, and play this game as soon as you can. This game is a work of art, and well worth the $30 price tag.
3. Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was overlooked in 2018 for one huge reason - Marvel’s Spider-Man PS4, which you can see our review for here. For fans of the rebooted Lara Croft series, Shadow continues on the trend of an action-packed, death-dealing Lara as she continues to come into her own as the seasoned Tomb Raider we know and love. While Shadow does not make many grave enhancements or adjustments from a technical or gameplay perspective over its predecessors, the story shines bright, and delivers in ways the others did not. You’re not wrong for being too caught up in God of War, Spiderman, etc. last year to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but you would most certainly be wrong for not going back to it.
4. Cuphead

Cuphead is a phenomenal run and gun indie game, released Fall 2017. If you have not heard of it until this point, it is immensely fun, and equally difficult. One thinks of Dark Souls when repeatedly dying, retrying, and learning as you play this game. With exceptional artwork and visuals, addicting gameplay, and a challenge that will leave any gamer feeling wondrous accomplishment, Cuphead is a for sure game to go back and get!
5. Detroit: Become Human

Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls - games that operate in the interactive cinematic realm that have been wonderfully refined by Quantic Dream. The next in line is no different, but by far the best thus far. In a world where Androids, the pinnacle of human achievement become a potential “threat” to humanity itself, which side does one find themselves on? That, is the complex that drives this PS4-exclusive game, Detroit: Become Human. See our review here. This game is a steal, and a ton of fun to explore in terms of the multiple paths, and the storyline’s intensity and detail.
6. NieR: Automata

Action-packed hack & slash fun, fast-paced reactive gameplay, a story that warrants replay, NieR Automata is a great action game that you might not have picked up in 2017. That being said, it’s a game that restores those things we desire most from a game - FUN. Play and enjoy this game if you’re looking for something to fill a gap in-between games.
7. Monster Hunter: World

Last, but absolutely not least is Monster Hunter: World. For fans of the franchise, or newcomers, here is an action RPG that will allow you great depth, and hundreds upon hundreds of hours of content. This game comes down to three core things - crafting huge weapons and armor, collecting and customizing said weapons, armor, and materials, and slaying huge monsters with your squad. MHW is definitely worth a try, and is a commitment in terms of the addictive grind, and farming for the best materials for crafting the most awesome gear.
HONORABLE MENTION: Middle-earth: Shadow of War

As an honorable mention, the Middle-earth franchise has delivered beautiful action games with great-feeling gameplay. It would be wrong to not include the latest addition to the franchise in the list in some way, as it’s definitely fun and worth taking for a ride.
